The Georgia Council on Economic Education selected Dr. Elfi Funk, a social studies teacher at Peachtree Ridge High, as the Georgia Economics Teacher of the Year, according to a GCPS news release.
Annually, the Georgia Council on Economic Education honors a Georgia educator for not only their content knowledge, but also for how they teach economics—their creativity, enthusiasm, and the variety of methods and resources used.
Funk was born and raised in Germany and began her academic career in her native country. She joined Gwinnett County Public Schools and Peachtree Ridge High when she relocated to Georgia from Florida at the start of the 2005-2006 school year.
Funk attended the College of Education in Dresden, Saxony, where she received both a bachelor’s degree and a doctoral degree in History.
