Gainesville's WDUN AM/FM Launches New Sports Radio Show
Radio powerhouse WDUN AM550/FM102.9 of Gainesville, Ga., is once again ahead of the curve with the launch of a sports radio show that encompasses everything from area high school teams to college and professional sports programs, according to a station announcement.
Starting Monday, Jan. 14th, Game On with Katie B. Davis will air every weekday from 7 p.m.-8 p.m.
From the East Hall Vikings to the University of North Georgia, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Atlanta Hawks, the Buford Wolves, Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons and everything in between, Game On will cover it. Facts, rumors, highlights, lowlights, coaches and players alike will be spotlighted during Game On with Katie B. Davis.
If the host's name sounds familiar, it’s because Katie B. Davis is the current host of afternoon news on WDUN 550AM/102.9FM. She has also hosted the Carriage Kia Tailgate Show and Hardy Chevrolet Scoreboard Show, which air during high school football season on WDUN AM550/FM102.9.
Katie B. Davis has an extensive sports background. She is the daughter of former University of Georgia football player and former high school football, baseball, wrestling and track coach Ken Davis.
She played four sports in high school, earned a full basketball scholarship and played in college at Austin Peay State and Presbyterian College. Davis spent the first few years out of college coaching on both an individual and team level. Davis spent four years as a sports writer, winning several Georgia Press Association awards while covering everything from high school football, basketball, golf and tennis to college and professional sports.
"I want Game On with Katie B. Davis to be the kind of show that people need to listen to day in and day out to get their end-of-the-day wrap up of what's going on in our local sports scene. I want AM550 and FM102.9 to be a destination between 7 and 8 every night, and we're going to make sure that the guests we have on and the things we talk about ensure that,” said Davis. "More than talking at an audience about big national sports headlines, we want to engage even the casual fan and start a conversation. A true conversation about what's right and wrong in our region of the sports world."
The list of sports stars she has interviewed during her tenure as a sports writer and on-air host for Jacobs Media includes former Atlanta Hawks great Dominique Wilkins, current Falcons players Matt Ryan, Tony Gonzalez and Brent Grimes, former Falcons linebacker Keith Brooking, former Tennessee coach Pat Summitt, former Tennessee player and current WNBA superstar Candace Parker, Georgia women's basketball coach Andy Landers, baseball great Phil Niekro, current college stars Blake Sims, Connor Shaw, AJ Johnson, TJ Jones, Andraya Carter, Blanche Alverson, and Erica Rucker, ESPN NASCAR analyst and expert Marty Smith, Bill Elliott, former college coaching great Howard Schnellenburger, Falcons coach Mike Smith, former New England Patriot Jarvis Green, and former University of Georgia All-American and Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Hines Ward.
“I am passionate about sports at all levels and am looking forward to sharing that passion,” Davis said. “We want Game On with Katie B. Davis to inform, but even more than that, entertain. We're going to give our audience insight into schematics, rosters, wins and losses, sure, but we're also going to discuss what makes athletes and coaches tick."
