A High Five for Cinco

The Mexican cantina offers upscale dining.

Eggs Benedict on top of crab cakes, strips of steak with egg is not typically the first thought that comes to mind when dining at a Mexican cantina. At Cinco in Suwanee, these are just a few of the choices on the various menus that the restaurant offers.

The atmosphere at Cinco is very sophisticated. Gone are the red and yellow of many Mexican eateries, replaced by neutral colors and big comfortable chairs. Glassware adds to the sophisticated touch, with even water being served in blue wine glasses. Cinco has a very open floor plan, with the bar spanning along an entire wall of the restaurant.

Upon first arriving at Cinco, the greeter was friendly, as was our waitress, Alyssa Prescott. Chips are automatically brought to the table, as is a brown salsa. Cheese dip can be ordered as well.

Prescott offered us a typical lunch menu, as well as a brunch menu that is available only on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brunch menu includes items like shrimp and grits and several dishes with eggs. Carne asada con huevos is steak, cut into strips and served with eggs.

Eggs Benedict on crab cakes consists of a poached egg placed on top of a piece of ham and piled on an English muffin. To complete the plate, a rich, thick hollandaise is poured over the entire assembly. Flavors are very unique and the presentation is precise, which makes it look like a meal served at a much finer restaurant. Portion sizes are very generous, with even a kids meal taking an entire adult sized plate.

While service at Cinco is fast, if your waitress is also tending bar, your wait may be a little bit longer than desired. Prescott, our waitress, was held up fixing drinks at the bar, yet still managed to serve us as needed.

Fortunately, the chips help to take the edge off of the hunger as we waited. If you happen to be there in the evening, Cinco After Dark, the outdoor area, has a lounge-type feel for those wanting to drink more than eat. Dinner menus hold staples such as tortillas and quesadillas, while still including other unque items such as lobster and pablono dip and lump crab cake.

Cinco Mexican Cantina is for those who love Mexican food but want to create new flavors with the Mexican theme, Cinco's variety of menus is sure to please everyone. For those with children, take advantage of "kids eat free" and get a free kids meal per every adult meal ordered from Monday through Thursday.
