Performing arts will take center stage in Suwanee on Friday and Saturday, as "The Little Mermaid Jr." will take to the amphitheater stage July 27-28. The performance is produced by Suwanee Performing Arts (SPA).
Adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production, "The Little Mermaid Jr." will feature hit songs "Part of Your World," "She’s in Love" and the Oscar-winning "Under the Sea." The performance is considered a "junior" show because it is a condensed version of the Broadway production released for amateur theater, according to an SPA news release
"Filligan's Island," a one-act play written and produced by SPA founders Berneta Bock Davis and Patty Etherton, will open for "Mermaid Jr." It is a spoof of the "Gilligan's Island" TV show.
More than 75 cast and crew will take area residents to a magical kingdom fathoms below, where the beautiful young mermaid Ariel (Erin Caruso) longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above, the news release said. But first, she'll have to defy her father King Triton (Jonathan McCravy), make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula (Rachel Wagner), and convince Prince Eric (Justin Hermosilla) that she’s the girl with the enchanting voice.
Admission to the shows is free. Also, children can attend an “Under the Sea” Tea and meet and greet with Ariel and friends, which will begin the festivities each day at 10:30 am in Town Center Park. Tickets are required to be purchased in advance for the event and are $25 per child. Contact SPA at770.821.7654 or firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your seat.
