Former Suwanee City Council member Jace Brooks had the lead late Tuesday night over Suwanee accountant Laurie McClain for the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners District 1 seat.
With 3,790 votes reported counted, Brooks had 53 percent of the votes, McClain 46.9 percent. This was with 9 of the 37 district precincts reporting.
McClain, a Duluth resident, was a member of the citizens advisory committee for the Gwinnett County budget process. Brooks was a City Council member in Suwanee from 2002-12. He also held a fund-raising advantage of almost 3-1 on McClain, who never has held public elected office.
"I'm not ready to say anything yet," Brooks said by phone from his campaign headquarters Tuesday night.
Gwinnett BOC District 1 includes Suwanee, Duluth and Sugar Hill.
