Early metro Atlanta TSPLOST Results: Mostly 'NO'
The transportation sales tax is not faring well in initial returns Tuesday.
Updated 11:01 p.m.
Though results are early, the transportation referendum known as TSPLOST was trailing badly in initial returns Tuesday night.
With about 447,000 votes counted, the Georgia Secretary of State's website showed that 64.3 percent of voters selected "NO" on their ballots, compared to 35.6 percent selecting "YES."
The controversial ballot measure would add a one percent sales tax to Gwinnett and several other metro Atlanta counties. The billions of dollars raised would be used to fund transportation-related improvements.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and Gwinnett elected officials support the measure.
Overall, the TSPLOST was trailing in nine of the 12 districts in Georgia. (Each district stands alone.)
Patch will have continuing coverage of TSPLOST and other election developments.
