An ailing dog who was dumped by his owners needs somewhere to stay.

A Gwinnett animal shelter is holding an elderly German Shepherd after he was dumped by his owners, but his time there is running out.

"Poor fellow just needs a soft bed and a loving home to live out his remaining time," said a message from Gwinnett Animal Control, adding that the dog's "stray hold" is running out.

A veterinarian who examined the dog said he suffers from dysplasia, bone spurs and lumbar spondylosis, and that he is now on pain medicine.

The dog is described as friendly and quite large. His animal ID number is 27699.

I have taken care of an elderly dog before so I know what to expect.

I am in my mid-sixties now and have a small home but it could work rather than putting him down.

I am upset to report this, but my husband said "no" to the dog. It was his old dog I took care of until the dog was eighteen and passed away so I thought he would understand. Maybe it reminds him too much of Laddie. I don't know. I am so very sorry to have to change my mind about taking the dog. He is beautiful.

Is there an update on this old guy? Was he adopted?
