POLL: End Saturday Mail Delivery? Share Your Thoughts
President Obama backs a plan to stop the financial bleeding. But hey, this is the mail we're talking about.
It has come up before, and the latest push to end Saturday mail delivery has the backing of President Obama himself.
The president's recent proposal, which was widely reported, comes as pressure mounts on Congress to pass legislation overhauling the Postal Service. The agency announced recently that it lost $3.3 billion in its most recent quarter, much of it due to a payment to prefund retiree health benefits.
The agency has become another casualty of technology. More and more, people are communicating by email, text messaging or social networks. Of course, bill paying by the Internet and shopping via mobile devices also is common.
But it's more than just cost savings. "Getting the mail" is a lifestyle matter, too. People chat "at the mailbox."
So now, share your thoughts. Do you favor eliminating Saturday mail delivery? Take our poll, and post your comments.

I love the post office and the service it provides me. But it must be fiscally responsible in its operation. If they need to stop Saturday delivery due to a decrease in letter/package volume then they should do so. A bankrupt post office doesn't help anyone.

It is always wise to look for ways to save money but it is irresponsible to cut services without also cutting some of the "perks" of being a postal worker. My grandfather was a postal employee for years and I am familiar with all the benefits he enjoyed. In these hard economic times, it is prudent to trim all areas of expenses.
