Report: U.S. Postal Service To End Saturday Mail Delivery in August 2013
Package delivery would continue on Saturdays. The plan reportedly would save the agency about $2 billion annually.
The U.S. Postal Service reportedly will end Saturday mail delivery in August 2013, but would continue to deliver packages on Saturdays.
According to an ABC News report, the agency is making the move to curb financial losses. The plan would save the agency about $2 billion annually, the report says.
Also, delivery to post office boxes would continue on Saturdays, the report says. And post offices now open on Saturdays would remain open on Saturdays.

Over the past several years, the Postal Service has advocated shifting to a five-day delivery schedule for mail and packages. Though an independent agency, the service still is subject to congressional control.
It was not immediately clear how the service could eliminate Saturday mail without congressional approval, ABC News said.
A formal announcement is expected later Wednesday.
-- Patch will continue to follow this situation.

I rather liked Clark Howard's suggestion of delivering mail to businesses M, W, F, and to residents on Tu, Th, Sa. However, with the current solution, if you go out of town for a weekend, you don't have to worry about the Saturday mail sitting in your box until Sunday evening when you get back. Usually, I can't see being harmed by my Saturday mail arriving on Monday. However, it would be nice if they'd add the Saturday before Mother's Day, and Saturdays in December.

I see little impact since most of the time Saturday mail is junk mail. What bothers me is what in relative terms seems like a small savings. There needs to be more cuts by this administration like this. I have heard it said, but can't remember by who, that "A billion here and a billion there. Pretty soon you are talking about real money." Wow they knocked 2 billion off their 16 billion a year losses? They’re well on the road to success!!

The Post Office needs to find a way to reinvent themselves and keep up with the times and technology. You can buy stamps online (stamps.com)
The merchants sending bills may have to send out them earlier if the mail is delayed.I mean, come on, that the way they have tried to increase revenue is by decorating a stamp, increasing the cost of stamps (it seems every year), etc. They did not value along with the way. Online bill pay has its down sides (hackers) but snail mail doesn't offer any value so people are not using them.
Here is an idea (although, itill never happen) --
The Post Office should be sold to a corporation and leave the government behind.
