Run, Rescue and Rain in Suwanee (Video)
The 2013 Run for the Rescues 5K went on in despite rainy and chilly weather in Suwanee.
The weather was not fit for man or beast, but both turned out Saturday in Suwanee for the Run for the Rescues 5K.
The annual benefit organized by the Georgia SPCA attracted plenty of runners, their dogs, and vendors to Town Center Park, and the 5K run that began on Main Street.
Chris Muller of the Georgia SPCA said about 900 people registered for both the 5K and one-mile runs. Also, organizers this year had a festival atmosphere planned, with vendors and a radio station doing a live remote from the park. But the rain still held down attendance, which may put a damper on the fund-raising goal of $25,000.
But Stella, one of the canine participants, was not deterred. For the second straight year, she was top dog -- accompanied by owner Johan Desmet of Suwanee.
