A major Suwanee thoroughfare was closed for several hours Wednesday evening (November 28) after a two-car, head-on collision killed two adults, according to Suwanee Police and media reports.

A Mercedes and a Pontiac were involved in the accident at McGinnis Ferry Road and Scales Road, which is near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and also near the edge of Old Town Suwanee.

Police said that the Pontiac apparently crossed the center line of McGinnis Ferry at a break in the median.

Names of the victims have not been released, pending the notifications of families. Traffic was backed up in the area, and was re-routed on other streets in the area.

Just a nit, it was a Mercedees, not a BMW. Regardless, I drove past this scene last night and it looked horrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved. I would like to know why the one vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic. By a look at the damage it was done while traveling at a high rate of speed.

Thanks, Robert. I saw some of the scene too, and it was indeed awful. When the police have more info, we'll pass it along.

Did you actually see the accident. I was the boyfriend of David Dowdy. I live in SC and saw the scene that wknd. It was horrific. The family is grateful for all who has sent prayers, and putting up the wreath. 5 different women stopped and cried and prayed with me while I was standing at the crash site. Email me with any info please. We still have alot of unanswered questions. Lapp1971@yahoo.com

McGinnis Ferry Road is becoming like Road Atlanta speedway! Since they have widened the road & openthe bridge over I-85 the speeding is awful. DOT needs to consider in putting a traffic light up at the corner of Scales Rd & McGinnis Ferry to SLOW down the traffic and help the people turning from Scales Rd.

Colleen, police still have not released the results of their report of the crash. We'll report it when they do. We know this is a bad time for you and Mr. Dowdy's family.

Guys - I'm the driver of the Mercedes. And my mother was the darling lady killed. I have been confined to several hospitals both heels to knees were crushed, various other leg injuries, a broken arm and a split scull. I'll never make it through a metal detector again. Hopefully I will be able to walk again in several months.
If any one has any email images of the wreck I sure would like to have a copy.
