Suwanee, Duluth, Sugar Hill Officials Endorse Brooks

The former Suwanee council member picks up support in the Gwinnett BOC District 1 race.

Jace Brooks, candidate for the Gwinnett BOC District 1 race, announced Friday that top elected officials in Suwanee, Duluth and Sugar Hill have endorsed his candidacy.

Among the supporters: Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette, Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris and Sugar Hill Mayor Gary Pirkle, according to a news release from Brooks publicist Jeremy Brand.

“For Gwinnett County Commission, the choice is clear— Jace Brooks.  I have served with Jace on the Suwanee City Council for 10 years, and his proven record speaks for itself.  Just look at what Suwanee has been able to accomplish while we’ve cut taxes and spending. That’s why we need Jace on the County Commission,” Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette said.

Brooks is a former Suwanee City Council member. He served from 2002-12. His opponent, Laurie McClain, is a Suwanee accountant and Duluth resident.

“As the Mayor of Duluth, I have known Jace for several years, and I have been proud to work with him on many issues affecting the cities in Gwinnett.  He is a true leader and has an impressive record from serving on the Suwanee City Council. I want Jace Brooks representing the city of Duluth and myself,” Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris said.

Additional endorsements are: Suwanee Mayor Pro Tem Dan Foster, and Suwanee City Council members Dick Goodman, Beth Hilscher (who will be sworn in Tuesday), Doug Ireland and Kevin McOmber.

Also endorsing: Duluth City Council members Marsha Anderson Bomar, Jim Dugan, Billy Jones, Kelly Kelkenberg, and Greg Whitlock. Sugar Hill council endorsements are Marc Cohen, Steve Edwards, Susie Gajewski, Mike Sullivan and Mayor Pro Tem Curtis Northrup.

Advance voting is under way for the July 31 ballot. District 1 represents Suwanee, Duluth and Sugar Hill.
