Suwanee Mayor Visits Students in City

Burnette discusses leadership at Riverside Elementary.

Riverside Elementary in Suwanee hosted a visit from Mayor Jimmy Burnette recently, as he visited the third grade students of Claire Mann and Genny Buice, according to a Gwinnett schools news release.

Burnette discussed the importance of basic principles that provide the
foundation of our local government, and he shared his political background
and Gwinnett County roots.

Burnette, who took office Jan. 1, praised the Riverside Elementary leadership initiative as he listened to the students talk about how they have learned to “Be the Leader.”

Burnette led a brainstorming session with students and discussed what they like and don’t like about the Suwanee. The students mentioned Town Center, Suwanee Day and other events, and the many parks and trails as some of their favorite things.

The students were concerned that future growth would have an environmental
impact and that it might be hard to maintain the current small town, family
feel in Suwanee. The mayor and the students then discussed ways they
could “be the Leader” and have a positive impact on their community.
