There were prison terms and historic districts in the news last week in Suwanee and Gwinnett. Let's review the top stories.

LASSETER HEADS FOR PRISON: The former Gwinnett District 1 commissioner and former Duluth mayor, 64, got a 33-month federal prison sentence. She pleaded guilty in May to bribery charges, and since had been cooperating with federal investigators.

FORMER GWINNETT OFFICIAL CHARGED WITH BRIBERY: Some of the fallout of the Lasseter situation was made public. Mark Gary, whose company developed Noble Village in Suwanee, was charged with bribery. Gary was appointed to the county Planning Commission by Lasseter in 2009.

SUWANEE HISTORIC DISTRICT: City officials received a preliminary favorable review from state authorities on establishing a national Historic District in part of Old Town. The lease-purchase of Pierce's Corner hangs in the balance.

ANOTHER LANIER DROWNING: The bad news continued at Lake Lanier. A 25-year-old Doraville man drowned on Labor Day at Van Hugh Park. There have been several drownings and boating accidents at the lake in 2012.

HANNAH RINEHART PASSES AWAY: The wife of a South Gwinnett teacher died as a result of complications from a bacterial infection. She was 32.
