Suwanee, Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

Traditional caboose lighting, Santa visit is set for Old Town

Updated Nov. 30, 2011

A Suwanee holiday tradition is back. The red caboose in Old Town on Main Street is ready for the annual lighting Friday. And Santa again will be on hand to preside over the ceremonies.

Old Town Holiday Festival and Caboose Lighting festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with performances of favorite holiday tunes by schoolchildren from Level Creek, Riverside, Roberts, and Suwanee elementary schools, according to the city's website. Hot chocolate, cookies, and s'mores will be available for free, and hot dogs will be available for purchase.

The caboose was donated to Suwanee by Norfolk Southern in 1992, and it was painted red and restored by residents to commemorate the city's rail history that dates to 1869, according to city information.

Children who have been "good for goodness sake" can share their wish list with Santa at the Burnette-Rogers Pavilion. Parents, bring your cameras to capture the magical moment.
