Several Suwanee Police officers will be participating in a fund-raiser basketball game Friday (March 15) in honor of a Gwinnett schools' resource officer who was injured in a traffic accident.
GCPS officer Robert Jimenez was injured in February while he was directing traffic in the morning at Lanier High. Police reports say that a motorist did not heed Jimenez's warnings, and hit Jimenez with her vehicle.
Officer Robert McCoy and several other Suwanee officers will take on the Lanier High faculty Friday at 6 p.m. at Lanier High in Sugar Hill. Also, some members of the Gwinnett Police Department will be participating.
There will be food sales by Ippolito's in Suwanee, as well as raffles. Sky Zone, BodyPlex, Marco's Pizza, Lowe's, QT and Taco Mac are among the Suwanee businesses offering goods and services in the raffle.
Jimenez is hospitalized and in therapy from the incident, according to the Facebook page "Get Well Officer Jimenez." He is confined to his bed or a wheelchair, has his mouth wired shut, and is on a liquid diet.
According to a Facebook post dated March 13 about Jimenez:
It’s been a really rough road for him (and our family) but with the prayers and support from our families, friends, co-workers and the community it’s made things a little more bearable. Thank you all!
