Is there any news on the man driving the Mercedes? Assuming Mr. Strickland... Is he going to survive?

FYI all, the only available info is that Jean Strickland and David Dowdy were the fatalities. We'll post other updates when they are available.

I have lived in Suwanee Station for 9 years and that intersection has gotten exponentially dangerous over the past year, especially with the increased congestion since McGinnis Ferry extension over I-85. Any talks about getting a light at that intersection?

Katy, I have not heard anything in Suwanee about a light, but they may not have that authority. I'll check with other agencies.

Jean's neighbors in suwanee station are shocked. That intersection has been a deathtrap and many of us have cimplained. The night she died at a community mtg with suwanee police someone asked what it would take to get a ligjt there. He said ot would take three deaths. And at about the same time that night the accident happened. Does someone else have to die?

Steve-Laura, what can we do as a community do to bring attention to this fatal intersection and get the proper resources to implement some safety measures....whether that be a traffic light or some other solution.

I spoke with a Suwanee city councilman this evening, Kevin McComber. I got the information on how to bring this in front of the city council to argue to have them petition Gwinnett county to assess the intersection.

McGinnis Ferry is maintained by the county, but Scales Rd. and Station Center Blvd. are maintained by the city of Suwanee. If the city is convinced that the intersection is dangerous to its citizens, then they will work with Gwinnett county to assess the danger and come up with solutions.

The next city council meeting is Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30 PM at City Hall. Part of the agenda calls for time for Suwanee residents to voice any concerns.

Councilman McComber agreed that this intersection is dangerous and said he would support residents who would like to have changes made. I told him I would speak with local members of the community to garner support in the form of letters and to join me in attending the city council meeting on the 18th.

Laura - would you like to assist in getting with your neighbors to write letters and/or attend the city council meeting? I'm fine to go to the meeting on my own or joined with other residents. It is important to have written support at the very least, so as many written statements as we can get would be great!
