2013 World Series: Five Things to Know

The Cardinals and Red Sox begin baseball's big event Wednesday.

It's sometimes known as the Fall Classic, although the World Series has been obscured a bit by football in recent years.

And Wednesday, it begins again, with Boston and St. Louis, two of baseball's most dominant teams in recent years, starting Game 1 at 7:30 p.m. (All games are on FOX.)

So we thought we'd bring you some interesting facts about the World Series.

  • MOST WORLD SERIES HOME RUNS: Not surprisingly, it's a Yankee from days of yore -- Mickey Mantle, with 18.
  • MOST WORLD SERIES VICTORIES BY PITCHER: Again, a Yankee -- Whitey Ford, with 10.
  • ATLANTA BRAVES: They were in the World Series five times in the 1990s, but have not made it back since 1999.
