Resources for Writers

As you may have guessed, I'm a writer of other works besides blogging. I've discovered we have a plethora writers here in the Suwanee area, so I thought I'd toss out some great resources for ... well ... for writers (and avid readers).

Here are the first dozen resources. I have plenty more, and if you want them, I'll be glad to pass them along.

Writer's Digest Community:

Find out what's happening in Suwaneewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

A wonderful way to connect to other writers, both fiction and non-fiction. They have articles on the craft of writing, and a host of other resources.

The Kill Zone:

Find out what's happening in Suwaneewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

If you write suspense or thrillers, this is a site for you. With 10 contributors, all bestselling authors in these genres, there is new content daily. But writers of any genre can learn from them. James Scott Bell has a wonderful writer's page on his website. He's authored 3 books on the craft of fiction writing from plotting to editing.

 Rants & Ramblings:

Literary agent, Rachelle Gardner, has a blog rich in discussion of craft & the business.

Crime Space:

A page on ning.com, this site is for writers of crime fiction.

The Blood-Red Pencil:

Sharp and pointed observations about good writing. A great place to pick-up tips.

Karen Ball:

Karen has been an acquisitions editor for numerous publishing houses, and she's now an agent with the Steve Laube Agency. She's one funny lady, who has great knowledge about this business of publishing.

Visual Arts Junction:

Aggie Villanueva is one multi-talented woman. She's also a book marketing guru. Her website is a cornucopia of information and resources.

The Visual Thesaurus:

Away from your office and need a thesaurus? This is a really good online option.

Novel Journey:

This popular literary site has the honor of our blog being thrice named one of Writers Digest's Top 101 Websites for Writers. It's called Novel Journey and posts author interviews and craft or business articles by published authors. With new content daily, it's a great site for anyone writing fiction.

Novel Reviews:

The sister site to Novel Journey, this site does what its name implies.

Professional Writers Organizations:

RWA (Romance Writers of America) and you don't need to be a romance writer to belong. They boast over 10,000 members and have 145 local, online and special interest chapters. RWA also sponsors the romance publishing industry's prestigious awards for published and unpublished romance writers — the RITA Awards and the Golden Heart Awards. These awards recognize excellence in romance fiction.

ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers): established in 2000 as ACRW (American Christian Romance Writers) it soon welcomed a number of men who didn't write romance. In 2004, they changed the name to American Christian Fiction Writers. With over 2,200 members, they have a local chapter in the Suwanee area. I belong to this great chapter, called WORD. We have over 30 members and meet monthly with a speaker. ACFW sponsors The Genesis Contest for unpublished writers and The Carol Awards for published works. These awards are recognized for excellence in fiction.

Finally, I'm going to be facilitating a writers' workshop, on a Saturday morning once a month, through The North Gwinnett Arts Association, right in Suwanee Center. Watch for a start date.
