$10 Rabies Shots Offered For Pets

Georgia SPCA acts after rabid animal found in Suwanee.

The Suwanee-based Georgia SPCA is offering $10 rabies shots for pets that are spayed or neutered through the agency's program. This comes after a cat tested positive for rabies in Suwanee.  The infected animal was found recently on Scales Road, near Buford Highway and McGinnis Ferry Road.

Georgia SPCA director Jane Stewart said rabies is almost always fatal once an animal contracts it, and it can be transmitted to humans through bites from an infected animal. The agency recommends dogs and cats be vaccinated each year against rabies. Other veterinary services are also available, Stewart said.
