Meteor Sighting in East; Did You See It? (Video)

A meteor―or something that looked like one―was visible entering the Earth's atmosphere in the United States shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, according to numerous unconfirmed reports.

From Boston to the Carolinas on Friday night (March 22), there were hundreds of unconfirmed reports on Twitter and other social media outlets of a meteor-like object visibly re-entering the Earth's atmosphere shortly before 8 p.m.

Montgomery County resident E. Steven Collins said he saw the meteor moving quickly across the sky, and told the Washington Post's "Capital Weather Gang" that the meteor was "Bright. Orange. Blue. White. Silver. Totally streaking by the sky light!"

A meteor estimated to be about 50 feet wide and weighing more than 10,000 tons exploded over central Russia last month, injuring hundreds with a shockwave that blew out windows and damaged structures across a wide area.

I saw it!! It looked like a shooting star...long and bright!! Thought it was a firework going off! ― Anne Zadrejko, Phoenixville

My Girl Scouts and I saw it. We were on a night hike at River Bend Nature Center in Gladwyne. We all agreed that it was a shooting star. ― Karen Meade

I was driving home, south on 476, right above Quakertown and I saw this huge flash. At first I thought it was lightning. Then I looked out my driver side window and I saw what I thought was a firework. It was a long, green streek in the sky that kind of fizzled out. It was so neat! Glad to know I wasn't seeing things. ― Amy Petko-Trimble

My son and I saw it walking out of a building in paoli. It stopped us from walking it was so bright and flickering! Neither of us have seen a shooting star before so we just assumed but it looked like it was right there! ― Kim Clarke-Wynn

CNN has a video of the object sighted.
