Flood Warning Issued for Suwanee Creek

Monday's heavy rain puts the level at 10 feet and rising.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 2) for Suwanee Creek.

According to the alert, recent heavy rain "has caused significant runoff into streams and rivers, which will cause flooding in some areas.

"All persons with interests along the (creek) should ... be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property."

Among other areas, flooding in the creek could affect the Suwanee Creek Greenway, which is popular with walkers and cyclists and has just been renovated.

More than four inches of rain fell Monday in the Suwanee area.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the NWS said the creek was at 10 feet and rising, and the weather service expected it to crest near the moderate flood stage of 11 feet. The creek will fall below flood stage Wednesday morning, the NWS said.
