Just Plein Fun in Suwanee

Artists again come out for the two-day Plein Air event.

Akasha Wood lives in Clemson, S.C., but there was no sign of a tiger paw Saturday when she set up her artist equipment in Suwanee.

Wood was in the area to visit a friend in Cumming, but also to participate in the annual Plein Air event, which is put on by the North Gwinnett Arts Association. This is when artists head for various locations in Suwanee to paint landscape scenes as they see them at the moment.

Wood was painting a scene at George Pierce Park in Suwanee on Saturday, the first day of the two-day event.

She fits the artist mold, as she noted that she lived in India from 1986-2008 for "spiritual reasons." She has been painting steadily for a couple of years, and eventually hopes to support herself with the activity.

The two-day Plein Air event was to be held Sunday evening with a reception and awards ceremony at the Uptown Grille in Town Center.
