March 13: Rocket Men

This week's Viewfinder captures a bottle-rocket event at North Gwinnett High in Suwanee.

A crowd of ROTC students met in the parking lot of North Gwinnett High School to launch bottle rockets Friday afternoon.

After several tries a rocket was launched, and it soared through the sky for a couple of minutes before it fell to the cement, slivering around like a wounded snake.

"We just like to have fun on Fridays," said Cody Jayroe, a North Gwinnett senior. Jayroe and sophomore Reese Evans constructed the bottle rockets together.

The bottle-rocket launch party is not a weekly occurrence, Jayroe said. "It's just an ROTC thing. It's not an actual part of ROTC, but we all do it to have fun together," he said.
