May 18: Botox for Children?

How far would you go for your child's beauty?

Last week, the audience watching "Good Morning America was outraged as a San Francisco mother admitted to injecting her 8-year-old with Botox to help her in preparation for beauty pageants. On "The View"Β  the hosts declared that the mother was an unfit mother. Ellen Pompeo, a guest on the show, went as far as saying, "That mother does not deserve a child." The mother is now being investigated by Human Services of San Fransisco after the community outrage.

There have been stories of moms gone too far in the news. Stage moms who can't stop coaching their child, dads who scream at sons trying to help create the next football star. I think that most moms would agree that this mom has gone too far for beauty pageants.

It does bring up an interesting point on how far we as parents are willing to go for our children. How important is winning? Is it at all costs? Do your friends tell you that you have gone overboard in any of your child's activities? Do you think "Botox mom" deserves to be put in jail for child endangerment?

We all want to help our children be the best in all they do, but there have to be limitations set. Protecting our children should be in the forefront. InjectingBotox incorrectly can cause dangerous side effects, including breathing issues. What makes this mom think that this is an acceptable practice?
