McGinnis Ferry Road's new four-lane extension over I-85, which will provide major traffic relief for Suwanee, will open mid-morning Tuesday, Aug. 30, officials announced Thursday.
"This project is coming to a close," Georgia DOT engineer Randall Davis said in a media release.

The $20.7 million project, which uses federal stimulus funds, has been going since planning began in the early part of the past decade.
The chief feature is a 2.67-mile, four-lane extension that runs over the interstate just east of Satellite Boulevard; there is no freeway access from this bridge.

"The extension will operate almost like a bypass for the interchange of I-85 and SR 317 (exit 111). If the interstate isnβt your destination, you can take the new extension and go around the congestion of the interchange to continue your route. It will greatly reduce the congestion on SR 317/Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road at I-85 as people use the new road,β the DOT's Davis continued.
Two new traffic signals will become operational when the extension opens, the DOT said. The new signals are at McGinnis Ferry Road and Old Peachtree Road and McGinnis Ferry Road at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, at the Super H store.
The entire project is scheduled for full completion in September.
