Public Arts Influence Is Spreading in Suwanee
From parks to elected officials, the influence is visible.
The recent qualifying period for Suwanee City Council candidates was the latest example of how the city's public arts program is now having a citywide influence.
Linnea Miller, a former Public Arts Commission chairman, was the lone qualifier for council Post 3. So next year, she will join Dick Goodman -- another former Public Arts Commission chairman -- on the City Council.
And former pieces from SculpTour, the walkable outdoor exhibit now in its third run, can be found in several locations around Suwanee. Among the dispays:
- SculpTour pieces have been purchased by the city and installed at Sims Lake Park (see above photo);
- a SculpTour piece was purchased by a private donor and put on display at Sims Lake Park;
- a SculpTour piece was purchased by Advance Auto Parts and is on display on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road;
- a SculpTour piece was purchased by a Suwanee family and put on display near the Gwinnett library branch on Main Street.
