Saturday in the Park: Balloons, Bubbles, Beasts

Town Center has another busy weekend at hand.

Updated 12:15 p.m., May 7, 2011

The old Chicago tune "Saturday In The Park" could apply to Suwanee's Town Center Park amphitheater these days.

Last Saturday, the city's signature playground hosted a March of Dimes/March for Babies fund-raiser (see attached video).

This Saturday will be a double-header: the weekly Farmers Market begins its run on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Then, the animals take over. In conjunction with Star 94 radio in Atlanta, the city is hosting Woofstock, a pet extravanganza.

The activity begins at noon with canine demonstrations in agility, lure coursing, and Frisbee planned during the day. More than 30 pet vendors and 15 non-profit and rescue groups will be on hand, as will inflatables for children. Contests for biggest dog, smallest dog, pet/owner look-alike, and best dressed pet will be held throughout the day.

Admission is free, and cats, birds, ferrets, etc. are also allowed. All animals must be on a leash, and owners are asked to clean up after their pets.

Sister Hazel, an alternative rock band from Gainesville, Fla., will perform at 6:30 p.m.  Their most recent CD, Heartland Highway, was released last fall; the band’s biggest hit was 1997’s All for You.
