Stowaway Dog in Gwinnett Soon Will Be Available for Adoption

A Gwinnett County business got quite a surprise when unloading a truck last month. The Duluth business had received a shipment from Denmark, S.C. When they opened the truck doors, a dog reportedly ran out of the trailer and into the warehouse.

The driver suspects the dog got on the truck in South Carolina two days before the delivery was made. He said the trailer was not air conditioned and the temperature could have topped 100 degrees during the 200-plus-mile trip.

Gwinnett County Animal Control was called to the scene, and they said the dog was barely able to walk or stand, was severely dehydrated and hungry. 

The dog did not have a collar or an embedded microchip, so her owner is not known. She was taken to the , where she is recovering well.

The veterinary staff at the hospital said the pet named Carolina is very good natured but has few social skills. Carolina is currently undergoing treatment for .

The cost for caring for Carolina has gone over the limit set for emergency care for strays; however the staff is covering the additional cost themselves.
