Suwanee Woman Receives Chick-fil-A's Highest Scholarly Award

Taylor Wharton, a 2011 graduate of Peachtree Ridge, is the 39th Suwanee recipient. This year she was one of 25 from across the nation to receive the scholarship.

A Suwanee resident is one of only 25 students across the nation to be awarded Chick-fil-A's highest scholarly recognition.

Taylor Wharton, Chick-fil-A team member, will receive the honor -- the 2013 S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award -- June 15 (9 a.m.) at the Chick-fil-A along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Suwanee.Β 

The 25 winners are chosen annually from among the chain’s 1,600 Leadership Scholarship winners, all of whom work at Chick-fil-A.

The program was created in 1973, and it recognizes Chick-fil-A employees who excel in academics and community service. In Georgia, more than 300 employees have received the award; in Suwanee, nearly 40 have received it.

A 2011 graduate of Peachtree Ridge High School, Wharton was active in her school's Honors Society, and in participated in the Relay for Life, the Adopt-a-Road program and more. (She is currently studying to be a nurse.)

For her spirit of excellence, Wharton receives a $1,000 scholarship.

"Taylor personifies the qualities the S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award was created to recognize,” said Brad Williams, the Suwanee franchise operator. "She leads by example in our restaurant and community.

"I am delighted that her hard work, positive attitude and leadership have been rewarded with this prestigious scholarship."
