Suwanee's Memorial Day Weekend Events Include Army Parachuters

Weather permitting, the Silver Wings, the Command Exhibition Parachute Team of the U.S. Army Infantry based at Fort Benning, will "drop in" at Town Center.

The City of Suwanee will host a Memorial Day weekend concert that will feature patriotic and big band sounds on Friday, May 23. The Continental Dance Orchestra, which includes some of the South's most accomplished musicians and bandleader/singer Gwen Hughes, will take the Town Center stage at 7:30 p.m.

Before the concert, weather permitting, members of the Silver Wings, the Command Exhibition Parachute Team of the U.S. Army Infantry based at Fort Benning, will "drop in" at Town Center. The parachute team is expected to land at the park shortly after 7 p.m.

"We're excited to have the Silver Wings team back in Suwanee," says Events Manager Amy Doherty. "Everyone, but especially the kids, get a real thrill seeing them soar and then land in the middle of the park with the American flag trailing behind one of them. It's a good reminder of the skills our soldiers must develop and the challenges our troops face every day."

Bring blankets, chairs, and picnics, but no alcohol may be brought into Town Center Park.  Parking is available at Town Center and along Main Street.
