UPDATED: The Gadding Goat of Glenwood

Doodles the goat escaped her pen for some fun.

UPDATED (9 a.m., Jan. 23): Our Good Samaritan reports that Doodles and her family have been reunited.

From Dana Klest:

I have the final happy ending to this story! Doodles is home safe with her family of chickens, birds, cats, and dogs and her owners, Joey and Zenobia. She lives on South Howard at Glenwood Avenue, very close to where this story began.

A tree fell on the fence at the back of the large property and Doodles decided to go on walk-about.

Joey did not even realize that she was missing until after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

By that time, she had walked up Glenwood all the way to Maynard Terrace. To keep her from being run over by a car, two men secured her to a tree in a neighbor's front yard in hopes that the owner might drive by.

By the time Joey's search began, there were already about 500 people who had looked at the posts on the list-serves indicating a goat had been found. Joey and Zenobia were at DeKalb Animal Control by 11:00 Wednesday morning, but it took AC until after 2 p.m. to release Doodles to her rightful owners. Thus concludes the "Great East Atlanta-Ormewood Park Goat Owner Search."

PARKVIEW — It's not everyday that you see a goat meandering along Glenwood Avenue.

But this little gal managed to escape her pen and was spotted on Glenwood just east of the I-20 interchange in the Parkview neighborhood.

"My daughter, Laurel, is the one who started the process by stopping when the goat was nearly hit crossing Glenwood near I-20," Ormewood Park mom Dana Klest told East Atlanta Patch.

So Klest enlisted the help of some other Good Samaritans who got the goat, named Doodles and tethered her to their yard, while others mounted a social media search to reconnect her with her owners.

Eventually, DeKalb County animal control officials came and got her, promising to wait five days for her owners to claim her before sending her to a no-kill farm.

An East Atlanta resident, known as "Beastie" on the EAV's neighborhood listserv, managed to connect with Doodles' owners who posted her as missing on Craigslist.

Her owners are schedued to pick up Doodles this morning.
