Art Is in the Heart of Suwanee Again

Arts in the Park was in full flower Saturday at Town Center Park.

It could be said that art put Suwanee on the map. Saturday, one artist in Suwanee showed how she turned maps into art.

Anita Stewart, who runs an arts school in Buford, had a unique painting at her booth at Arts in the Park 2013.

Seems the painting of a fox was actually composed in part of bits of maps from an old atlas -- a close look reveals roads from the maps, with the pieces assembled like an odd puzzle. Stewart explained that her husband got the idea when he saw foxes run in front of him on a road near their home.

Unique was the norm Saturday at the annual festival. Exhibitors included book authors, makers of items from burlap, designer soap makers, jewelers, and more traditional artists, some of whom composed paintings for patrons during the event. The annual event was organized by the city and the North Gwinnett Arts Association.
