Cars, Bluegrass in Suwanee, and Roller Derby

Entertainment options in the Suwanee area are plentiful.

It’s a weekend of unlikely yet wonderful combinations: doughnuts and running, derby girls and puppies. They must be matches made in weekend heaven. 

Classic Car Show in Historic Norcross Hundreds of hot rides will be on display in Norcross on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the annual benefit car show. Everything from muscle cars to antiques will be on display, and proceeds will go to a student scholarship fund.

Krispy Kreme for a Cure 5K Norcross High’s boys’ basketball team will hold a 5K on Saturday to benefit the school’s Relay for Life team. The best part of the race: Challengers must down six Krispy Kreme doughnuts midway through. For more information, check out the team website www.norcrossbasketball.com

Taste of Christ Church Wine Tasting and International Dinner Taste 28 wines from around the world at this event, which benefits the Norcross Co-op and Rainbow Village. Members of the congregation will provide international dishes to pair up with your vino. Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and costs $25 up front or $30 at the door.

Roller Derby and Puppies Fundraiser Gwinnett’s Angels Among Us Pet Rescue has paired up with Atlanta Rollergirls for this event in downtown Atlanta, which pairs cute dogs with fierce ladies. The Dirty South Derby Girls will take on Knoxville’s Hard Knox team with all of the proceeds going to pet rescue efforts. Maple Ridge at Everett Brothers Music Barn Suwanee’s favorite bluegrass barn is back again this weekend with Maple Ridge. The show starts at 8 p.m.. Bring your own instrument for the jam session afterward. Everettsmusicbarn.com has the details.

The Little Mermaid at Gwinnett Center The Northeast Atlanta Ballet takes the stage this week at Gwinnett Arena with a performance of the beloved Little Mermaid.
