Dalai Lama Plans Trip to Gwinnett

The Gwinnett Arena announced Tuesday that he will speak there in October.

The Gwinnett Arena has announced that His Holiness the Dalai Lama will speak on October 8 at 9:30 a.m. 

According to their website, he will focus on the "fundamental human values that are the building blocks of an engaged and compassionate world."

He will share his vision of secular ethics, according to the program description, its underlying principles, and the "urgent need to embrace such a system in today’s increasingly connected and globalized society."

He will accept questions from the audience after his speech. 

That afternoon starting at 1 p.m. he will participate in a panel on Secular Ethics and Education with Emory University professor Frans B.M. de Waal, Senior Lecturer at Emory's Department of Religion Geshe Obsang Tenzin Negi and others.

Following his appearance at the Gwinnett Center, he will spend two days at the Emory University campus.

"The Dalai Lama has made invaluable contributions to our understanding of what it means to be an ethical citizen of the world," said James Wagner, president of Emory, in a statement. "We are looking forward to the return of Emory's Presidential Distinguished Professor and the opportunities for our faculty and students to engage with him on these vital issues."  

The money from ticket sales are used to cover expenses and any remaining funds will be given to charitable organizations.
