Eddie Owen Reportedly Fired From Eddie's Attic

'Eddie Owen Presents' continuing to stage concerts at Red Clay Theatre in Duluth. Three concerts scheduled this week.

Atlanta Magazine columnist Rich Eldredge reported Monday (May 14) in his Eldredge ATL blog that Eddie Owen was fired last Friday from Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, based on a post Monday morning by Owen on his personal Facebook page.

The post has since disappeared, but Owen’s Eddie’s Attic fans had expressed dismay at his dismissal and promised to follow him to Duluth. The firing also was reported on 11alive.com.

Owen had resigned last October as general manager of Eddie’s Attic under the previous ownership as he prepared to launch his “Eddie Owen Presents” concerts at the Red Clay Theatre in downtown Duluth. The first EOP concert at RCT occurred in December.

Owen then agreed to assist Alex Cooley and Dave Mattingly, new owners of the Decatur music venue, with booking acts. They are also partners with Owen in his Duluth venture.

Duluth Patch has tried to contact Owen, but has not yet been able to confirm the report. A screen shot of Owen’s Facebook post accompanies this article.  “I won’t be going inside Eddie’s Attic again,” he posted, “got fired on Friday.”

He noted that are “three really good shows” at the Red Clay Theatre this week and invited his concert fans to come to RCT. “Love to see ya’ll, come to Duluth to RCT for a show.”

Booked for Thursday at RCT are Levi Lowery and Travis Meadows followed by Big John Hopkins on Friday and Banks & Shane on Saturday.

Owen founded Eddie’s Attic in 1992. He has been credited with launching the careers of the Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins, John Mayer, Sugarland, the Zack Brown Band, and the Civil Wars.
