Suwanee Performing Arts presents "Hairspray" and "Rapunzel's Twist"

Welcome (back) to the 60’s as the hit broadway musical “Hairspray” makes it’s way to the stage at Suwanee’s Town Center Park on Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 at 7:00 pm. This production marks the fifth anniversary of Suwanee Performing Arts’ popular “Broadway in the Park” event. Preceding “Hairspray” will be "Rapunzel’s Twist”, an original mini-musical based on the children’s fairy tale and set to popular 60’s tunes.

“Hairspray” has delighted audiences by sweeping them away to 1960's Baltimore, where the 50's are out -- and change is in the air.  Lovable, larger-than-life adolescent, Tracy Turnblad, manages to vanquish a reigning princess, integrate a television show, and find true love (singing and dancing all the while, of course), all without mussing her hair.

SPA’s “Broadway in the Park” series typically draws more than 4,000 people for the two performances and is the group’s biggest fundraiser of the year. This provides funding for arts programs such as Suwanee Youth Ballet, Sounds of Suwanee Jazz Ensemble and the newly forming (CAPS) Community Art Players of Suwanee.

“We are thrilled to be presenting “Hairspray” to celebrate our fifth anniversary of Broadway In the Park”, said Patty Etherton, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Suwanee Performing Arts. “As in previous years, we have assembled some of the best performers, directors, choreographers, and musicians in the Gwinnett County - North Georgia area, and we anticipate another fantastic weekend of shows to benefit our arts programs.”

Admission is free to the public. Limited VIP reserved seating for sponsors will also be available. This year will once again feature “The Most Outrageous Seat in the House”, a front-row-center virtual living room, complete with overstuffed sofas and coffee table, allowing six to eight people to enjoy the show with all the comforts of home. The M.O.S.H. is sponsored by Outrageous Interiors and will be awarded to the highest bidder for each night of the show.  Online bidding will begin on July 1.
