Houses are not always steel and studs, boards and bricks. A special exhibit opening Jan. 8 at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center shows how people all over the world live in different kinds of homes and build them in myriad ways, depending on the climate, what materials are available, how they live and geography.
In this exhibit, you can design and build houses, plus tour models of homes from Mongolia, Figi and Malaysia. Get a glimpse of what people in those cultures call home.
A computer program at the exhibit lets you choose building materials, match houses with environments and compare options using typical tools of the trade.
A special opening day event is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 15 -- after the exhibit's actual opening. The exhibit will be in place through April 17.
