SculpTour, Arts In The Park Looming in Suwanee

Also, officials find a site to display coming 9/11 artifact.

Suwanee's latest arts event will be a double-header of sorts. Arts In The Park is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at Town Center Park. Officials also are planning the formal launch of SculpTour, a citywide display event, for that date.

Arts In The Park, organized by the North Gwinnett Arts Association,Β will feature more than 40 artists who will exhibit their works and demonstrate their crafts as well as an entertainment lineup. Art forms will include pottery, jewelry, painting, photography, writers and elemental art.

Arts In the Park will begin at 11 a.m. Admission is free.

SculpTour involves 15 pieces of art to be displayed around the city. Online voting will begin in July, and the "people's choice" winner will be purchased for permanent display by the city.

Even Suwanee's new police substation will be incorporated into art planning. As reported, the city will be receiving a metal remnant of the World Trade Center that was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Suwanee officials plan to incorporate that artifact into a piece of art to be installed at the substation being constructed at Interstate 85 and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. The substation is a former gasoline station purchased by the city.
