Should Suwanee Day Be a Two-Day Event?

Some are suggesting that the city's annual festival be longer. Share your thoughts.

Already, some voices are speaking out, suggesting that the annual Suwanee Day festival become a two-day event.

The following comment was posted recently on the City of Suwanee Facebook page:

I was just wondering if there was actually any serious consideration to making the event two days. From all the comments here, as well as the comments from those at the event, it is something the people want. Not sure why it couldn't be. Who are the powers that would make this decision?

And there were other comments there suggesting that the city's annual festival, which just had its 30th run, cover two days instead of one.

Undoubtedly prompting the suggestions this year was rain. The clouds opened at midday Saturday and continued until early evening. The concert by Fastball took place in good weather, but the rain caused many people to stay away and some vendors to pack up and leave early.

So, in evaluations and planning for 2014, will there be discussions of possibly expanding Suwanee Day to two days?

Yes, just as it has been discussed before, said Denise Brinson, economic development director at City Hall.

But Brinson noted Tuesday that officials won't be too quick to change the pattern. The event involves hundreds of volunteers, as well as logistical coordination with city staff such as police and public works.

Also, some vendors come to Suwanee Day because it indeed is a one-day event. And businesses is the Town Center area are affected by parking restrictions and road closures.

Another Facebook commenter noted:

The City of Suwanee does not profit from Suwanee Day, it is a fully -self funded event run by a volunteer event staff that pays said event by fees and sponsorships collected. As someone who has served on the committee for the past four years, I would strongly encourage you to come and help us plan and execute the event so you can see what truly happens to pull this amazing day, off. We do not raise enough money, nor have the volunteer man power to execute a two-day event (and I am not sure my feet could take another 16+ hour day
