Smithereens To Perform at Suwanee Day

The New Jersey-based group has several recordings dating to the 1980s.

The Suwanee concert scene, which was exceptionally lively in 2011, is attracting name talent in 2012 also.

The Smithereens, recording artist who have several albums, will perform at Suwanee Day on Sept. 15, according to city officlals.

This will mark two straight months of notable rock shows at Town Center Park. It has been announced that Vertical Horizon will play on the amphitheater stage on Aug. 11.

The Smithereens have recorded 10 original albums since forming in 1980 in New Jersey, according to wikipedia.org. Their latest album is titled "2011."

The Smithereens are known for writing and playing catchy 1960s-influenced power pop, according to wikipedia. The group gained publicity when a single from the first album, "Blood and Roses," was the theme song of the 1986 movie "Dangerously Close." Also "Blood and Roses" was featured on a 1987 episode of the TV show "Miami Vice."

Rock entertainers to perform in Suwanee have included The Lovin' Spoonful, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, the Little River Band, and America.
