Summer Is in Session in Suwanee

Memorial Day has been regarded as the unofficial start of summer, but Suwanee got the season under way in its own way Friday.

A concert by the Gwinnett Community Band and an exhibition parachute event livened up Town Center Park for the annual Memorial Day weekend concert.

Three members of The Silver Wings, an exhibition parachute team based at Fort Benning, Ga., landed in the back area of the park about 7:15 p.m.

And the band, a nonprofit group of musicians from the Atlanta area, performed patriotic and big-band tunes after the parachute event.
