Suwanee Music Barn Plans Fall Event

The Everett facility will have a festival on Oct. 20.

Suwanee's iconic music facility continues to break new ground by setting a date for a fall all-day event.

will hold the Fall Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, Oct. 20, beginning at 1 p.m., according to its Facebook page. This marks the first move to twice-yearly festival gatherings for the bluegrass performance site.

Tommy Everett, family member and curator of the barn's musical tradition, said this week that "we are putting bands together" for the event. The first all-day event in 2012 was in April.

Also in April, the music barn hosted a Southern potluck picnic that was sponsored by the City of Suwanee. The new ventures are an effort by the Everett family and Gwinnett-based owners to raise the profile of the music barn locally.

The owners also are looking for fund-raising opportunities, with a target of $20,000 for 2012. The barn, which was built by hand in the 1970s with material from a destroyed apartment building, is in need of structural repairs.
