Suwanee Plein Air Event Set for Weekend

Artists will be doing their thing outdoors at Town Center and elsewhere.

Arts grabs the spotlight again this weekend in Suwanee as the North Gwinnett Arts Association holds another plein air -- meaning outdoors -- painting event.

“Plein Air” is a French term that means painting in the open air, working directly from the landscape or cityscape as it appears at that moment, according to the NGAA. In Suwanee, the concept will be expanded by inviting artists of different mediums to participate – photographers, sculptors, and mixed media artists.

About 14 artists have signed to participate, and they will work Saturday (9 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) at locations of their choice throughout the parks, Town Center, and historic areas in Suwanee. They can use their styles to capture scenes as quickly as possible. Visitors will be able to watch the artists at work. Some artists may talk about their work while they are creating, but others will be so engrossed that they may be unaware of any onlookers, according to the NGAA.
