The owner of Friends Grill eateries in Suwanee and Dacula says he wants the Berlin Wall artifact that he bought at auction Saturday to remain in the county.

In a Facebook posting, Stanjevich said: "Suzanne and I wanted to make certain this piece of the Berlin Wall would stay in our community. And that is why we bought it. We want it to stay in Gwinnett County.

"As immigrants, and children of immigrants, those "yearning to breathe free", we have the Berlin Wall as a reminder of the cost of freedom. We hope that we have helped somewhat so that our children will never forget that "freedom isn't free". God Bless America - HOME OF THE FREE, LAND OF THE BRAVE!"

Stanjevich bought the 8,000-pound concrete memento of the Cold War at an auction Saturday (May 25) in Suwanee for $24,000. Proceeds from the bidding will be used as restitution for victims of a Ponzi scheme.
