Lasseter Wants Character Reference Letters

Gwinnett Citizens How Do You Feel About Corruption? Shirley Lasseter to be sentenced Sept 5th.

Submitted by Jim Regan

I’m going to assume everyone is aware that District 1 Commissioner Shirley Lasseter plead guilty to bribery and corruption charges in June.  Her sentencing will occur on Sept. 5 in the Atlanta Federal District Court. So let’s not waste time rehashing the past.

But did you hear Shirley has sent an email to several influential Gwinnett residents asking that they write “character reference” letters to the sentencing judge?  Two of the residents identified so far are Jim Maran, Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, and R.D. Betcher, Duluth Police Chief.

Personally I am absolutely outraged that Shirley had the gall to state in her e-mail that the reference letters will, “make a huge difference with the Judge.”  And also for saying, “I am so sorry if I have disappointed any of you in any way. Certainly not my intentions to do so.”

Well Shirley let me speak plainly; the good citizens of District 1 trusted and elected you to represent them as commissioner.  You repaid this trust with lies and corruption.  Of course you disappointed them and the only reason it wasn’t your intention was because you didn’t think you were going to get caught soliciting or accepting a bribe.

Personally, I am going to write my own letter to Judge Pannell and ask him to sentence Shirley to the maximum prison term possible.  Danny Porter said Gwinnett government has a culture of corruption; we need Judge Parnell’s help delivering the message that citizens want and expect honestly and integrity in government.

Let's honor Shirley request by having the good citizens of Gwinnett deliver a letter writing campaign to Judge Parnell with our character references!

     Judge Charles A. Pannell, Jr.

2367 Richard B. Russell Federal Building

     75 Spring Street, SW

     Atlanta, GA 30303-3309

I sure hope you are correct on this but I won't take odds...

Well, I for one am so relieved to know that my fellow citizens of Gwinnett include individuals of such extraordinarily high character and moral superiority as Jim Regan and "lynchsales". And oh, how fortunate we are to have this public forum for such exemplary and unfallible human beings to so eloquently express their righteous indignation and condemnation, including resorting to utterly disparaging characterizations and connotations including "Folks, this is an animal." While I agree that Ms. Lasseter's actions were grevious and wholly misguided, I do actually admire the fact that she had the guts to admit to her wrongdoing and accept the consequences - an extremely rare occurrence for an elected official. And apparently "lynchsales" has some inside knowledge that I'm not aware of relative to the drug involvement - it was my understanding from published reports that her son and another individual were responsible for that aspect of the case. What Lasseter did constitutes a blatant betrayal of the public trust, and Shirley Lasseter has ultimately demonstrated that she was not capable of adhering to the standards required of a trustworthy public servant. But she has also demonstrated that she is profoundly sorry and ashamed of her shortcomings. And she is also not "an animal". Shame on YOU, "lynchsales".

She admitted that she knew about the drugs. Go back and read it. Also she only admitted it because she made these deals with undercover FBI agents who filmed and recorded every word. It's called copping a plea. You can shame on me all you want. I stand by my statements. And if you were using your real name I'd be embarrassed for you.

Well, you sure told me, eh? Besides exhibiting a great deal of misplaced anger, it's obvious that you are much better informed and simply a much better person than I am - not to mention Shirley Lasseter (no, wait - she's an animal) and I suspect pretty much everyone you meet. And speaking of names, perhaps you should change your blog pseudonym from "lynchsales" to "lynchmob" ... Now, I shall go off and feel real embarrassed.

As long as you go. I don't care what you do when you are gone. Only that you indeed are gone is enough for me.
