SPEAK OUT: Gun Sales Increase After Colorado Massacre

The recent tragic Colorado movie massacre is having yet another effect -- increased gun sales.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that gun sales in metro Atlanta have shown an increase since 12 people were killed at a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo. Several others also were injured.

Also, a report in Politico.com said that gun sales were up in areas nationally outside Colorado.

The AJC reported that Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna saw a "phenomenal day" on Saturday, the day after the incident, owner Jay Wallace said. He sold over 200 guns — rifles, handguns, shotguns — more than double what he usually sells.

"There were a lot of conversations," Wallace said. "They know the liberal Democrats will try to pass legislation for more gun restrictions."

Politco.com reported that Seattle's home county, King, saw nearly twice as many requests for concealed pistol licenses than the same timeframe a year ago. Florida recorded 2,386 background checks on Friday, up 14 percent from the week before. Oregon checks on Friday and Saturday were up 11 percent over the month prior. Four days of checks in California were up 10 percent month-to-month.

"It's not uncommon for us to see spikes in requests for concealed pistol licenses when there's a significant gun-related tragedy," said Sgt. Cindi West of the King County (Wash.) Sheriff's Office.

In Georgia, a person buying a gun must undergo an electronic background check, performed at the store.
