Gwinnett tourism officials have begun sifting through the proposals to build a so-called headquarters hotel as part of the Gwinnett Center/Arena complex.
Preston Williams, CEO of the Gwinnett Convention & Visitors Bureau, characterized the interested companies as "established" in a news release, and that indeed appears to be the case.
Those tossing their hats into the ring are:
- Thoroughbred Capital Partners/Welty Building Company;
- Acquest Development, Inc.: CGLS Architects of Atlanta, Turner Construction Company, DRB Consulting;
- Nilhan Hospitality, LLC, a joint venture of DCT Group and Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company;
- Spectrum Capital, Swerdling & Associates.
According to Internet research, Welty has offices in Ohio and North Carolina. Its projects include the Time Warner Cable facility in Ohio and Goodyear Tire & Rubber headquarters in Ohio.
Turner Construction has an Atlanta office but is not affiliated with the broadcasting empire. Its projects include The Breakers Hotel in affluent Palm Beach County, Fla., and the Marriott Waterfront Ballroom renovation in Porland, Ore.
North Carolina-based Concord has more than $300 million earmarked for hotel development in 2012, according to a company news release. Among its projects is a 250-room, full-service Marriott Hotel in the Sugarloaf area of Gwinnett.
Spectrum Capital is based in Jackson, Miss. According to a company fact sheet, it has 14 high‐rise condominium towers containing more than 3,000 units, retail entertainment attractions and vacation destinations throughout the Southeast.

The potential project, which will be developer financed, is a integral piece to "making sure that Gwinnett County and Gwinnett Center can move to the next level for meeting and convention marketing," the GCVB's Williams said in the news release.
