Another New Business in Works for Suwanee Gateway

A vacant building is being renovated on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road near I-85.

It's early in the process, but the Suwanee Gateway area is getting some new business activity.

A vacant building on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road that once housed a buffet restaurant is getting a construction makeover, a sign that it will be occupied soon. The building, which last was a restaurant called Manna Buffet, sits next to Suwanee Package store, not far from I-85.

No business license has been applied for, according to Amie Sakmar, director of finance for the City of Suwanee. She said the property is owned by the owners of the Red Roof Inn, which opened earlier this year near that location.

A spokesperson for the Red Roof said Wednesday (July 10) that the building would house a restaurant when renovation is complete. But she knew no further details.

This adds to the redevelopment of the Gateway business district, something that is a high priority with city officials. Schlotzsky's Deli opened in May, and the Hotel May Queen is being demolished to make way for a yet undetermined development opportunity.
