Cafe Gourmandises Satisfies Many Ways

French food and flair in Suwanee.

If you are looking for food that is unbelievably delicious, hearty, yet still light and good for you, look no further than Cafe Gourmandises in Suwanee. If you are looking to satisfy a sweet tooth, the cafe can help with that, too. If you are looking for gourmet-style food on a recession-style budget, stop at the Gourmandises. On Fridays and Saturdays, stop by to stock up on chocolate croissants for a decadent weekend.

All you have to do is look at the amount of awards that this restaurant has garnered to know that you have stumbled into spectacular.

The chef's background is impressive as well. Chef and owner Christophe Houy was born in Versailles and graduated Versailles Culinary school at the age of 18. His travels have added Asian and Creole influence to his food. After working in many five-star restaurants, he became a Chef Instructor at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. He then decided to open the Gourmandises.

I decided to try the marinated tilapia sandwich with vegetable soup. The tilapia filet is joined by caramelized onions, tomato, lettuce, green aioli, and pesto. The tilapia is flaky and delicious. It is not an everyday sandwich, just a half will fill you up, but it is too good to not finish the whole thing.

My favorite dining partner, my eldest daughter, enjoyed a Parisian version on ham and cheese with a side of fries. The fries are seasoned and served with an aioli dip that you could eat all on its own.

We, against protests from our full tummies, enjoyed peanut butter mousse on caramel bed covered with chocolate ganache.

I was also especially impressed by how much care Houy takes in his customers. Not only does he have his hands in each item he prepares, he serves the food when he can, runs the registers, and makes sure that he is interacting with each customer. Several times he asked us how we were doing and if we needed anything.

Huoy also treated us to macaroons, telling us that they are "the traditional French cookie." With flavors like vanilla, coffee and pistachio, I can certainly see why.
